So here you are.. Finally in Egypt, the land of the Pharaohs. So much history all around, and you are getting closer to seeing the Egyptian Pyramids of Guizeh.. One of the seven wonders of the world!
Amazingly, the Great Pyramid remained the tallest man-made structure in the world until the advent of modern skyscrapers.
Excitement is an understatement. Though there are some things you need to know before heading out to try and make your experience as amazing as it possibly can be!
Some general information about the Egyptian Pyramids visit:
Visiting hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM.
The Great Pyramid is closed from 12 to 1 PM.
Cameras are not allowed inside the Tombs and inside the Egyptian Pyramids.
If you want to use a tripod you will have to pay an extra 20 LE.
How much does visiting the Egyptian Pyramids cost:
Visit the Area + Great Pyramid + Khufu Boat : 400 LE / 200 LE (student – make sure to have your student ID).
To only visit the area around the Pyramids will cost you 120 LE / 60 LE (student).
To go the inside of the Great Pyramid : 300 LE / 150 LE (student).
Khafre Pyramid : 60 LE / 30 LE.
Menkaure Pyramid : 60 LE / 30 LE
Mers Ankh Tomb: 50 LE / 25 LE.
I’d recommend you visit the area + the Great Pyramid and the Khufu boat – it’s a nice package.
Inside the Egyptian Pyramids area – also known as Plateau de Guizeh
You have to know that the area is huge, by foot it would take you around 2 hours to do the tour. But 2 tiring hours especially if it’s in summer!
You can always ride a camel inside – they usually give you half an hour I believe for 200 LE. Keyword is bargain like everywhere else.
My suggestion would be hiring a taxi for the day and having him with you inside to go wherever you’d please. N.B. you will have to pay for his ticket and the car ticket which is 30 LE.
Get ready for people to hustle you. That’s what they do. They will try to get anything from you.
Keep in mind that the decimation of Egypt’s tourism industry means owners are barely able to support their families. This is how they put food on their table. Ever since the revolution tourism has been pretty down. And these people live out of tourism! You will get annoyed but keep in mind that it’s their only way currently.
Don’t get scammed though, buy in EGP, never in dollars or Euros.
Take water with you and don’t forget to stay hydrated!
My favorite area there is called the Panorama, you get a full view of the 3 Pyramids which I love. While there you can have a drink, it’s safe. People sell water, soft drinks.
What to wear during your visit at the Egyptian Pyramids
Suitable footwear! Remember the Egyptian Pyramids are in the desert, so sand and lots of walking!
For women, wear suitable clothes, specially if you are planning on going inside the Pyramids. Flowy dresses per example.
One last advice would be wear a hat. Sun is pretty strong over there and there isn’t much shade.
Enjoy your visits, and if you have anymore questions, don’t hesitate as always ❤️
